Wine information
The Vietti Barolo Castiglione comes from eleven different sites in the region. The Nebbiolo vines are seven to 40 years old and stand on clayey loam topsoil with calcareous subsoil. About 4,500 vines per hectare were planted. The eleven vineyard sites were vinified separately over 30 months in different wooden vats.
Nose
The Castiglione, Vietti's Barolo calling card, which reflects the style of the house in the best possible way, opens with notes of dry earth and undergrowth, a touch of tar and spices, before dark fruit appears - cherries above all, but also plums and orange peel. In the background you find more and more leather and smoke as the air increases, and the cherries are accompanied by their heated cherry pits, as it were, much like you've warmed a cherry pit pillow. The Castiglione, the most accessible Barolo of the house, invites to the first sip.
Mouth
On the palate, the wine shows itself - completely committed to the vintage - with a powerful tannin structure and a wonderful fineness of expression. Here the red fruit is more open than in the aroma. It is juicy and ripe, bringing a clear acidity and combining it with a distinct mineral vibrancy and tension. Even if the Castiglione still very young, it is pleasantly open and inviting with a fine-grained texture and an impressive length.
