Wine Description for Atalante 2019 by Attis Bodegas y Vinedos

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, intense golden yellow in the glass – a visual harbinger of the concentration and complexity this wine promises.
Nose
This Atalante demands air – best decanted. Then it unfolds a fascinating aromatic world: cool stony minerality meets grapefruit and banana, whilst subtle roasted notes, a hint of coffee with milk and brittle bear witness to the oak ageing. Particularly charming is the Mediterranean herb play: fresh sage, rosemary and thyme in both their raw and toasted forms lend the bouquet an additional aromatic dimension.
Palate
Here the Caiño Blanco reveals its full personality: spicy, saline, with genuine grip and structure. Grapefruit, orange and lime deliver the fruit aromatics, yet the true strength lies in the texture – this wine has substance and complexity. The maritime salinity and crisp acidity make it an ideal food companion. At 12.5% alcohol it remains elegant and approachable.
Finish
Long, mineral and spicy with lingering freshness. The saline component resonates for some time – the sea does not let go.
Terroir & Origin
From Rías Baixas, home to great Atlantic white wines. The grapes grow on granite soil with sandy-loamy character – a combination that gives this wine its characteristic minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Caiño Blanco, an autochthonous Galician rarity. Hand-harvested, destemmed and pneumatically pressed. Spontaneous fermentation in 500-litre barrels of French oak, followed by 12 months‘ ageing with bâtonnage. Minimal filtration. Only 2,666 bottles produced.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Langoustine with tomato, chorizo, fennel and saffron, gilt-head bream from a salt crust with Mediterranean vegetables, or fried vegetable sticks with lemon-olive oil dip. Serve in large glasses at not too cold a temperature.
Special Features
An ambitious, impeccably crafted white wine that demonstrates what Caiño Blanco can achieve in the right hands. Decanting is essential.
