Wine description for Artuke red wine 2024 by Artuke

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, dense purple-red with a brightening rim – a youthful wine with radiance and vitality in the glass.
Nose
Invitingly complex and dark-fruited: mulberry, blackberry, cassis and raspberry meld with plums cooked in cinnamon and fig compote. Floral elegance through hibiscus, violet and pansy, whilst sloe brings depth with its almond-like core. Fine mint and eucalyptus provide a cool, fresh dimension – a harmonious interplay between fruit fullness and aromatic finesse.
Palate
Gripping, juicy and remarkably light-footed. Vibrant acidity meets melted, fine tannins that provide structure without harshness. The fruit presents itself lighter and clearer than on the nose, yet remains dense and compact. Modern elegance pairs with contemporary drinkability – an uncomplicated, invigorating red wine with refreshing directness.
Finish
In the aftertaste, eucalyptus and mint dominate, whilst the floral notes fade gently and softly. Fresh, clean, with pleasant length.
Terroir & Origin
From Rioja Alavesa, specifically Baños del Ebro, this wine comes from various parcels at 420 to 500 metres altitude. Chalk and clay characterise the soils, whilst Atlantic and continental influences – occasionally even a Mediterranean breeze – create a complex microclimate.
Grape Variety & Vinification
An unconventional cuvée of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Viura (white grape variety). Hand-harvested with double selection, completely destemmed, spontaneous fermentation in steel tank, followed by malolactic fermentation. Five months maturation in cement tanks before light filtration and bottling – a purist, terroir-focused approach.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled vegetables, tapas, chorizo, Jamón Ibérico, lamb chops, pasta with tomato sauce or mushroom risotto. The freshness and juiciness also make it an ideal companion to spicy hard cheese.
Special Features
The addition of 5% Viura lends this Rioja an unconventional freshness and lightness – a modern, approachable approach that combines tradition with contemporary elegance.
