Color
Muted violet-red, black in the core, almost colour-dense to the rim.
Nose
The 2011 Abélard is a charming, lush and beguiling drop that immediately wins you over with its fiery southern warmth. Sweet ripe berries, black cherries, cassis liqueur, liquid dark chocolate and coffee combine with toasted rosemary, licorice and tar. A clear graphite note and a breath of violets and cassis leaf contribute a pleasant freshness and elegance.
Palate
On the palate, it pours with a wonderfully dense richness, lots of sweet fruit, soft and polished tannin structure, an inspiring acidity and the finest, stony minerality. You feel transported straight to the beautiful Chêne Bleu estate, smelling the rosemary bushes and hearing the crickets chirping on a summer evening as smoke from the charcoal grill lingers in the air. It's already drinking extremely pleasantly at the moment, but can happily mature for a few more years!
