About the wine
The fruit comes from the Kamptal, the Kremstal and the Traisental. The soils there are mostly characterized by primary rock, the Gföhler Gneis, with a topsoil of brown earth and a partially present chalk layer. There are also loess soils and clay soils.
After the selective hand harvest in 20-kilo boxes in mid-September 2018, the berries were fermented spontaneously. The maceration time was three weeks, and the fermentation reached a maximum of 31 °C. The Zweigelt was aged in used 600-liter and 1,200-liter oak barrels until March 2019.
Color
dark ruby red with violet reflections
Nose
This is a juicy and fresh Zweigelt. You can already sense that in the aroma, which is very animating. Black cherries and sour cherries can be found here, as well as violets, a little black and also red currants including stems, some dried wood and dried herbs. The Zweigelt seems ripe, but cool at the same time.
Mouth
On the palate, it quickly becomes clear that this wine is a true all-rounder. It is an all-season Zweigelt that should also work very well in the summer, slightly chilled. The tannin is round, typical of the variety, but still has character. The acidity is clear and fresh into the finish. Above all, the Zweigelt offers a pleasant balance of fruit and fine herbal spice. Often the variety seems quite lush on the palate. Not so here. The Loimers integrate juicy cherries and currants. They are accompanied by a little pomegranate and cranberries.
