Wine description for Weissburgunder trocken 2025 by Battenfeld-Spanier

Character
A Pinot Blanc of remarkable precision and depth. The 12.5% alcohol promises drinkability without heaviness, whilst the estate’s biodynamic approach reveals itself in a crystalline structure. Here, the elegance of the variety meets Rheinhessen minerality – a wine that substitutes power with finesse.
Terroir & Origin
Battenfeld-Spanier, together with Kühling-Gillot, manages two VDP estates under biodynamic stewardship. Whilst Kühling-Gillot cultivates the legendary vineyard sites on the Roter Hang between Nierstein and Nackenheim, Battenfeld-Spanier works in the Wonnegau and Zellertal on limestone soils. These lend the Riesling a taut, cool texture with saline precision – a signature that also defines the Pinot Blanc.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Blanc is increasingly finding its own identity in Germany, distinct from Burgundy. Since 2005, the estate has been farming biodynamically, with spontaneous fermentation in large wooden casks and stainless steel tanks. Minimal sulphur additions and the avoidance of fining agents allow the variety to retain its delicate nutty character and citrus fruit. The cellar is viewed as a place of guidance rather than correction.
Food Pairings
The chalky structure and dry style make this wine ideally suited to fine cuisine. It pairs beautifully with sole with beurre blanc, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, or young hard cheeses. It also demonstrates its versatility alongside poultry in a cream sauce or smoked trout fillet. A wine that combines the understated elegance of Pinot Blanc with Rheinhessen precision.
