Királyudvar

Those who think of Tokaji may first have images of the Habsburg court in mind and stories of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Hardly any other wine is as closely associated with the royal courts and their prestige as Tokaji. Accordingly, the noble sweet wines have always been "the wine of kings and the king of wines", as Louis XIV is said to have described it. One of the houses that supplied the Hungarian court with wines very early on is Királyudvar, which means "the court of kings". In the golden age of Tokaji from the 16th to the 18th century, Királyudvar's Tokaji Aszú were among the most famous in the world.

Wine information

The Tokaji Furmint sec 2008 is a cuvée of 82 % Furmint and 18 % Hárslevelű from all own vineyards around Mád and Bodrogkeresztur, including the famous plots in Henye, Percze, Becsek and Lapis. The biodynamically produced grapes were slowly pressed in Huet presses and spontaneously fermented in 500-litre Hungarian oak barrels.

Nose

Already in the fragrance the clarity and the pure of a great dry Furmint prove themselves. The fruit of apples, pears and quinces shows perfect ripeness and is almost overlaid by a bright fragrance reminiscent of lime and orange blossom, which lifts the wine to the top. In the very background and really only very discreetly, one can perceive a brioche smeared with honey, which gives the Furmint an additional depth.

Palate

On the palate, the brightness and intensity of this furmint continues. The wine is extremely lively, enormously fresh and punchy. Since its age, it reveals at most its depth, but not its aromatic surface. This is defined by grapefruit peel, sweet and sour apples, limes and white peach and rounded off by a striking salty minerality that gives the wine a high, no, a very high drinkability. For me, the benchmark so far for dry Furmint.
