Canaiolo

Canaiolo was once an integral part of almost every Chianti – as a gentle counterpoint to the stricter Sangiovese. The variety brings soft fruit, round tannins and a certain suppleness that Sangiovese often lacks. However, with the modernisation of the region, Canaiolo was pushed back; today it can only be found at a few tradition-conscious estates.

Corzano e Paterno vinifies Canaiolo both as part of the classic Chianti blend and as a single varietal – demonstrating how elegant this underrated grape can be. Le Masse also works with old Canaiolo vines and lets the variety speak with its quiet yet distinct voice.
