Color:
In bright lemon yellow with white-golden reflexes the wine shows itself clear and shining in the glass.
Nose:
The first nose of this very youthful Rieslander behaves downright shy. Actually, he did not want to be disturbed for the next years.
Delicate citrus aromas of mandarin zest and lemongrass combine with fully ripe yellow fruit in the form of sharon fruit and physalis, as well as fresh figs and mango. Woodruff, chamomile and tonka bean enhance its depth and changeability. The bouquet of this rare wine (only 1280 bottles of 0.375L in 2017) from Wachenheimer Schlossberg is as tightly woven and dense as it is feather-light and fragrant.
Palate:
All that fruit revealed on the nose of this 2017 Schlossberg Rieslaner Auslese from Odinstal is multiplied on the palate and doused with roiboos iced tea with cardamom and floral honey. Silky, almost oily texture nestles on the palate. The wine's fruit is fully ripe to the point, yet clear and precise, and agile and animated thanks to a wide-open acidity sail.
A great wine that will last many decades in intangible, yet tasting delicious beauty, if we let it.
