Rieslaner
Also known as: Mainriesling (Germany)
Rieslaner – a crossing of Silvaner and Riesling from 1921 – is one of those rarities rarely found outside Franconia. The grape produces more powerful wines than Riesling, with more body and often exotic aromas reminiscent of lychee and mango. Long used only for noble sweet Auslese wines, it also shows itself as a distinctive character when dry, with pronounced acidity.
At Odinstal in the Pfalz, Daniel Wagner focuses on this forgotten variety and demonstrates what it can achieve beyond Franconian convention.
