Wine Description for Sauvignon Blanc Late Release “Zeitspiel 2” 2017 1500ml by Tement
- Colour & Appearance
- A clear, pale straw yellow, threaded with delicate green reflections.
- Nose
- This Sauvignon Blanc presents itself remarkably composed and profound. Two years of maturation on fine lees temper the youthful primary fruit and replace it with complexity: aromas of yellow pear and elderflower merge with savoury nuances of green olive, light tobacco and pickled nettle, underpinned by a cool chalky tone.
- Palate
- On the palate, the mastery of the late release reveals itself. The texture is creamy and substantial, balanced by a mature, beautifully integrated acidity. This is a wine of aristocratic elegance, where juicy fruit meets a pronounced salinity.
- Finish
- The finale is long and demanding in the best sense. The shell limestone emerges ever more distinctly and leaves a mineral imprint, whilst a fine tannic grip provides enormous drinkability and structure.
- Terroir & Origin
- A virtuoso cuvée from six different vineyard sites in South Styria, which unites the entire spectrum of limestone, sand, slate and opok.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Sauvignon Blanc, spontaneously fermented and aged for 24 months in large neutral oak barrels as well as in stainless steel on fine lees. Unfiltered bottling for maximum character depth.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Excellent with halibut on roasted peppers, catfish cabbage rolls with sorrel foam or a spicy pumpkin soup with curry.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle underscores the great ageing potential of this extraordinary regional wine, which embodies the timelessness of Styrian fine wines.
