Wine Description for Roter Veltliner Wagram 2024 from Fritsch
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale straw yellow, radiantly clear and brilliant in the glass – a wine that promises freshness at first sight.
- Nose
- Generous and inviting: fully ripe pears, Boskop apple and dried quinces dominate the opulent bouquet. Joined by citrus zest, a hint of passion fruit and – charmingly contrasting – slightly herbaceous notes of passion fruit and blackberry leaves. This combination of opulence and freshness is typical of the autochthonous grape variety from the Wagram.
- Palate
- What the nose promises, the palate delivers: The rich, yellow fruit is precisely reflected, framed by fine, ripe tannins that lend the wine structure and a slightly herbaceous contour. The acidity is perfectly integrated, the texture creamy and silky, the body pleasantly lean at 12.5% alcohol. An uncomplicated thirst-quencher in the best sense – lively, juicy, eminently drinkable.
- Finish
- Fruit-driven and fresh, with an echo of citrus and herbaceous notes. Medium length, invigorating, makes you want another sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- Weinberghof Fritsch has been farming biodynamically since 1995 on the south-facing slopes of Kirchberg am Wagram. The vines are rooted in deep loess soil, which imparts the characteristic mineral character of the Wagram. The optimally ventilated terraced sites ensure healthy grapes and vibrant wines.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Roter Veltliner – an Austrian speciality that has its home in the Wagram. Single-varietal vinification in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit aromas to the maximum. Biodynamic cultivation underscores the respect for grape variety and origin.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A versatile everyday wine: perfect with pan-fried fish, Wiener Schnitzel, asparagus with sauce hollandaise, goat’s cheese salad or simply as an aperitif. Also an excellent choice with Asian dishes featuring lemongrass and coriander.
- Special Features
- A prime example of modern, regionally rooted Austrian white wine. Biodynamic cultivation, autochthonous grape variety, typical Wagram terroir – and refreshingly uncomplicated at the same time. The ideal wine for Monday to Friday, as the tasting note aptly puts it.
