Wine description for Materia Prima XXII 2022 by Fritsch

Colour & Appearance
Radiant orange with a satin-matt shimmer.
Nose
A multi-faceted interplay of aniseed, orange zest, chervil and liquorice. With a little aeration, yellow kiwi, subtle notes of tomato leaf and dried flower petals join the bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, it reveals a cool nature with an astonishingly vibrant drinking flow. With its powdery tannins, the texture is reminiscent of fine Darjeeling tea, borne by notes of orange blossom and red apple skin. The acidity remains elegantly in the background.
Terroir & Origin
The roughly 40-year-old vines grow at 220 metres above sea level on an east-facing plateau in the Wagram. The deep loess with a high proportion of fine earth retains nutrients optimally and ensures the grapes retain their expressive tone.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 50% Grüner Veltliner and 50% Roter Traminer. Spontaneously fermented following selective hand harvesting, this certified organic wine matured for 12 months, with 75% aged in large wooden casks and 25% in concrete eggs. Bottled with a natural cork at a slender 11.5% vol. alcohol.
Food Pairings
An excellent match for intense global cuisine: outstanding alongside Moroccan tagine with dried fruit, mildly spicy pumpkin curry, roasted pheasant or mature washed-rind cheese.
Key Features
An uncompromising skin-fermented white wine from a biodynamic estate (member of respekt-BIODYN) that embraces the experimental and, thanks to the perfect combination of oak cask and concrete egg ageing, shines as an intellectual benchmark orange wine.
