Colour & Appearance

Luminous lemon yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that promises precision from the very first glance.

Nose

Clemens Busch has achieved a monument of finesse here. The aromatics shift fascinatingly between classical Mosel Riesling style and exotic complexity. Lemon zest, kaffir lime and white peach form the foundation, yet the wine unfolds a surprisingly Far Eastern character: lemongrass, coriander, mint. Mediterranean herbs such as lemon thyme, lemon balm and sage join the composition. A fine spice of white pepper and toasted spice seeds lend the bouquet additional depth – cool, precise, multifaceted.

Palate

Here the true greatness of this wine reveals itself. Like a laser beam the wine strikes the palate – a new benchmark in terms of precision and focus. The vibrant acidity merges with a stony-cool, almost saline character into a monument of elegance. The fruit deliberately steps back; this wine lives from density, pressure, character and seemingly endless length. The blue slate of the Fahrlay Terrassen speaks unmistakably here.

Finish

Impressively long and characterised by refreshing herbal spice. Eucalyptus and coriander dominate the aftertaste, accompanied by the omnipresent, cool minerality. A finale that seems never to end.

Terroir & Origin

The Fahrlay Terrassen comprise approximately one hectare directly at the Pünderich ferry landing in pure south-facing exposure. As the only section of the Marienburg, this area is dominated by blue slate. The extremely stony subsoil forces the vines, some up to 100 years old, to develop deep roots – the result is concentrated, small-berried grapes of extraordinary health and mineral character.

Steamed halibut with kohlrabi and lemon beurre blanc, pan-fried veal fillet with grilled asparagus and herb-olive jus or roasted celeriac with parsley pesto and walnuts.
