Info

The "Fahrlay" area covers an area of about one hectare and is located, as the name suggests, directly next to the Pünderich ferry landing stage in a purely southern location. It is the only area in the Pünderich Marienburg where blue slate dominates. The particularly stony subsoil forces the vines to obtain water and nutrients from deeper layers. The wines present themselves extremely concentrated and characterised by a special minerality. The oldest plot in this area is our "Fahrlay Terrace" with approx. 100-year-old vines. The grapes here are particularly small-berried and very healthy.

Nose

In 2021, Clemens Busch has achieved a great success. The Große Gewächs from the Fahrlay terraces within the Marienburg stands tall in the glass. At first, it seems more classically anchored in its grape variety and region than many other Busch wines these days. Lemon zest, kaffir lime and white peach are not unusual aromatics. It has a slight Far Eastern touch and is reminiscent of Southeast Asian cuisine. Lemongrass, mint and coriander make their presence felt. Paired with lemon balm, lemon thyme and sage, it is a successful blend that combines coolness and finesse. White pepper and roasted fennel and coriander seeds provide a fine spice.

Palate

On the palate, it is at its best. Like a fine, strong jet, it hits the palate and shows a new reference in precision. The active acidity marries with its stony, cool, almost salty character into a monument of elegance. The fruit takes a back seat. It lives on density, character, pressure and length. The aromatic expression of the nose comes to the fore again in the finish. Its omnipresent, but refreshing herbal spice characterises the reverberation. Especially eucalyptus and coriander stand out here.
