Wine Description for Riesling Marienburg Grosse Lage „Raffes“ 2020 by Clemens Busch

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with brilliant reflections in the glass – this Riesling already demonstrates its concentration and maturity visually.
Nose
An aromatic fireworks display: Boskop apple, ripe vineyard peach and apricot form the foundation, above which lemon zest, meadow flowers and herbal notes hover. Added to this are honey and subtle malty accents. The nose is fulminant, powerful and multi-layered – a wine that reveals its class with the very first sniff.
Palate
Pure juiciness – the Raffes floods the palate with forceful fruit that meets delicate residual sweetness. Remarkable is the spicy tannin structure, which gives this Riesling backbone and tension. Saline minerality runs through the wine like a thread – pleasantly challenging and complex.
Finish
Long, precise and with enormous persistence. The mineral component resonates for minutes – a sure sign of this wine’s considerable ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Raffes in the Marienburg complex is among the finest parcels of the Mosel. Steep slate slopes, partially terraced, define its character. Clemens Busch farms here biodynamically and allows the terroir maximum expression – you taste it in every sip.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling in its purest form. Spontaneous fermentation, extended time on lees and deliberate avoidance of fining and filtration – Busch lets the wine be what it is. With 12.5% alcohol and moderate residual sweetness, the 2020 shows itself balanced and approachable.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The saline minerality and spicy structure make it the ideal companion for grilled mackerel fillets with corn and cucumber. Equally brilliant: carrot soup with ginger and fresh cheese dumplings or surprisingly with veal fillet with candied orange slices and pomegranate seeds.
Special Characteristics
A Riesling masterpiece that exemplifies why Clemens Busch belongs to the absolute pinnacle of German winemaking. The Raffes 2020 unites power with elegance, depth with drinkability – Mosel Riesling at world-class level.
