To highlight the specific differences within the Marienburg vineyard site, Clemens Busch vinifies the parcels separately and bottles the wines under the former parcel designations, such as Fahrlay or Falkenlay. The wines, which are harvested very late, are characterised by enormous richness and power as well as mineral substance.

Wine Description for Riesling Marienburg Grosse Lage “Raffes” 2017 1500ml – Clemens Busch by Clemens Busch

Colour & Appearance
A deep, luminous golden yellow with viscous streaks that bear witness to the enormous extract concentration.
Nose
The bouquet is an intellectual pleasure: profound and complex, aromas of ripe apricot, dried herbs and a smoky note typical of grey slate reveal themselves. Nuances of quince jelly and beeswax resonate through, gaining depth from the late harvest and biodynamic vinification.
Palate
On the palate, the “Raffes” displays an impressive stature. The subtle residual sweetness (off-dry) functions not as a sweetener, but as a texture provider that perfectly buffers the powerful acidity. It is a wine of baroque fullness, yet with razor-sharp precision. Flavour-wise, saline minerality, candied citrus fruits and an almost oily density dominate, coating the entire mouth.
Finish
A heroic finale. The wine lingers for minutes with an interplay of spicy slate pressure and a fine phenolic grip that provides structure and drinking flow.
Terroir & Origin
The “Raffes” parcel is a centrepiece of Pünderich’s Marienburg. The specific microclimate and the skeleton-rich nature of the soil lend this Riesling its unmistakable, mineral primal force.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling. Clemens Busch consistently embraces biodynamics and very late harvesting. Vinification is carried out with minimal intervention to capture the pure essence of the Grosse Lage.
Food Pairing Recommendations
This wine demands equally worthy partners: pan-seared scallops with saffron risotto, spicy Asian fusion cuisine or a robust Roquefort harmonise excellently.
Special Features
In the 1500ml magnum bottle, this 2017 possesses enormous ageing potential. It is a demonstration of how power and elegance find perfect symbiosis on the Moselle.
