Wine Description for Riesling Lenchen Trockenbeerenauslese TBA 2018 375ml by Peter Jakob Kühn

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with amber reflexes that reveal the extreme concentration and noble rot origin. Syrup-like viscosity in the glass, flowing slowly down the sides with each swirl – a visual promise of pure opulence.
Nose
Bewitchingly complex: candied apricots, honey and orange marmalade dominate initially, accompanied by dried mango and raisins. Beneath these lie the finest notes of beeswax, saffron and a hint of Botrytis spice. With aeration, floral accents of acacia blossoms develop, along with a subtle mineral slate note reminiscent of its Rheingau origin.
Palate
Despite only 6% alcohol, a monumental presence: the sweetness is intense, yet never cloying, perfectly balanced by brilliant Riesling acidity. The flavour profile mirrors the nose – honeydew melon, apricot preserve, candied orange peel – yet the vibrant freshness lends the wine remarkable elegance. The texture is creamy-silky, almost oily, without feeling heavy.
Finish
Endlessly long, with a fascinating evolution: the sweetness fades gradually whilst mineral and spicy notes – ginger, white chocolate – linger on. The acidity leaves a refreshing trace that immediately invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Lenchen in Oestrich ranks among Rheingau’s premier crus. The phyllite weathered soil with quartz components imparts the wine’s characteristic minerality and tension – perceptible even in this concentrated TBA expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Produced from noble rot-affected Riesling grapes (Botrytis cinerea) harvested with meticulous hand-selection. The biodynamic approach following Demeter standards since 2004 is evident in the wine’s extraordinary purity and vibrancy. Spontaneous fermentation and extended ageing contribute additional complexity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A meditation wine par excellence that shines on its own. As an accompaniment to blue cheese such as Roquefort, foie gras or caramelised desserts with apricots. Also a revelation with dark chocolate of high cocoa content.
Special Features
A rarity from an outstanding vintage. The 375ml bottle is the perfect format for this precious wine. Ageing potential: at least 30+ years.
