Wine Description for Riesling Lenchen Trockenbeerenauslese TBA 2018 375ml by Peter Jakob Kühn

Colour & Appearance
Luminous old gold with amber reflexes, of impressive viscosity. In the glass, the concentrated essence of noble rot berries reveals itself in all its splendour – syrupy, flowing almost oily.
Nose
A breathtaking bouquet of aromas featuring candied apricots, honeycomb and dried mangoes. Beneath these, fine notes of orange marmalade, beeswax and a hint of saffron. The botrytis lends the wine a fascinating complexity with hints of rose petals and exotic spices.
Palate
Despite its enormous sweetness, this wine never feels sticky or heavy-handed. The crystalline Riesling acidity provides the perfect counterbalance to the opulence, lending the TBA remarkable elegance. Aromas of honeydew melon, apricot preserve and candied citrus fruit dance with mineral notes. At just 6% alcohol, this reveals the pure essence of the grape.
Finish
Endless, vibrant, of fascinating length. The sweetness fades elegantly, carried by a saline minerality reminiscent of wet stones. A hint of ginger and white flowers in the aftertaste.
Terroir & Origin
The Lenchen is one of the Rheingau’s premier vineyard sites, with deep, stony soils. Biodynamic cultivation according to Demeter standards since 2004 produces wines of extraordinary authenticity that express their terroir with utmost clarity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
From noble rot-affected Riesling berries of extreme concentration. Harvesting is highly selective, often in multiple passes. Peter Jakob Kühn’s biodynamic approach eschews any manipulation – what is in the glass comes from vineyard and cellar, not from the laboratory.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Classically with Foie Gras or Roquefort. Excellent also with apricot desserts, crème brûlée or simply on its own as a meditative experience. Also a fascinating pairing with spicy Asian dishes.
Special Characteristics
A rarity that only emerges in exceptional vintages. 2018 offered ideal conditions in the Rheingau for noble rot. With 230 years of family tradition and uncompromising biodynamic philosophy, Kühn produces wines of timeless greatness – bottled poetry for generations.
