Wine Description for Puligny-Montrachet “Les Enseignères” AOC 2020 1500ml by Chavy-Chouet

A Puligny of almost architectural clarity. Romaric Chavy demonstrates with this 2020 “Les Enseignères” – a vineyard site situated directly adjacent to the prestigious Grand Cru gardens of Bâtard-Montrachet – how to unite solar ripeness with vibrant, almost nervous freshness. The wine eschews superficial opulence and instead relies on an intellectual tension that is typical of the Domaine’s precise style. In the magnum bottle, this Chardonnay presents itself still youthfully reserved, yet already hints at enormous depth and ageing potential.

Colour & Appearance
Pale, brilliant lemon yellow with crystalline, silvery reflections.
Nose
Highly elegant and focused. Aromas of citrus zest, green apple and white spring flowers are underpinned by a distinctive, almost smoky flint minerality. A hint of fresh almond in the background.
Palate
On the palate, the wine displays power and weightlessness simultaneously. The texture is taut, characterised by an invigorating acidity and fine, saline minerality. Not a trace of heavy oak, instead pure fruit precision and a remarkable tonic energy.
Finish
Long, precise and clean. The aftertaste lingers with notes of lime and a chalky grip that is typical of the terroir.
Terroir & Origin
The “Les Enseignères” parcel lies directly below Bâtard-Montrachet. The soil is characterised by fine limestone and clay, which gives the wine its characteristic balance of power and elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay. Maturation with great sensitivity to bring the purity of the fruit and its origin to the fore.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An ideal companion to grilled turbot with Beurre Blanc, scallops or fine poultry in cream sauce.
Special Features
The 1500ml magnum offers the perfect format for slow, harmonious maturation of this highly elegant Burgundy.
