Wine information

The vineyard lies below the former monastery of Les Clarisses, which is why it got its name. Les Saintes Claires and forms the extension of the Grand Cru Mambourg in Sigolsheim. It has a high proportion of limestone. The vines are around 25 years old. The wine was fermented with 20 % whole clusters and allowed to mature for 16 months in barriques, of which 20 % were newly added.

Nose

The nose of the Les Saintes Claires appears somewhat more feminine and even finer than that of the two »Grands«. The floral aromas and the berry fruit fan out widely. The Pinot Noir appears highly elegant, sensual and fine with a strand of cool rock, with herbal notes and a hint of blood orange. The nose seems pure, fresh and lively with a light veil of smoke.

Palate

This finesse and refinement is also found on the palate. The fruit is a successful blend of juicy, crisp and ripe berry fruit with some sour cherry. The acidity represents the limestone, seems pressing and punchy, even racy. The texture is fine, silky and elegant. The wine oscillates between silk and acidity all the time. It certainly needs the longest time to mature, but already shows a wonderful depth. This has a lot of potential and even if it doesn't say »Cru« or »Grand« on the label, the wine would definitely have earned that distinction. Alsace and especially the Barthelmé family have made quantum leaps in quality in recent years.
