Wine information
The Pinot Noir comes from the 18.06 hectare Premier Cru site Les Vergelesses in Pernand-Vergelesses. The terroir of Pernand-Vergelesses is similar to the one of the Corton hill, which is characterized by siliceous and calcareous red marl with a high iron content. The clay content is around 30 % in Chandon's low-lying parcel, known as Bas-Vergelesses. The domaine has 1.22 hectares facing east.
Color
medium garnet red
Nose
A dark and spicy fruit is the trademark of the Premier Cru site Les Vergelesses. And this is also how the 2017 vintage presents itself. The Pinot shows notes of dark wild berries as well as blackcurrants, cranberries and dark cherries. In fact, the wine seems cool and brings some notes of earth, damp clay and underbrush. That's where it shows that the wine was fermented with raisins.
Mouth
On the palate, the Pinot is a lively and spirited representative of the terroir. Dense on the palate, again dark and earthy, it shows a successful round yet distinctive tannin. The use of wood is restrained and structuring, the acidity precise and clear. This is a Pernand-Vergelesses for now and later - with potential, but with now already clear drinking pleasure.
