Nose

2014 Morei Cilindrica from the Vigneti delle Dolomiti is a special wine. Despite the vintage being generally labelled as complicated, it manages to combine power and concentration with great finesse and transparency. The nose is dominated by black cherries, Amarena cherries and blackberries, underpinned by plum jam. Blood oranges and currant leaves oscillate between hibiscus and rhododendron, black pepper provides spicy outlines.

Mouth

On the palate, it's full fruit ahead! With tightly woven, polished tannins and dense extract, acidity and texture set the pace At 180 gpm, the goblet empties almost single-handedly. Powerful with present fruit and self-confident appearance, the prolonged ageing in cylindrical amphorae accelerates the ripe tannins as well as the rapid drinking flow and balances the fruit-accentuated finish with fine, noble bitter nuances.

Food recommendations from Sebastian Bordthäuser

  • Baked carrots with ducca and pomegranate vinaigrette
  • Grilled mackerel with plum chutney
