Wine Description for Marsannay blanc AOC 2023 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with a silvery shimmer at the rim – a wine that already displays its youthful freshness in the glass.
Nose
Remarkably delicate and playful for the generous vintage of 2023. Nashi pear and white peach dominate, framed by delicate floral notes of linden blossom and white lilac. The fruit shines cool and brilliant – a sign of precise work in the vineyard and cellar. This nose promises far more than simple drinking pleasure.
Palate
Here the true class of this Marsannay reveals itself: a fascinating interplay between ripe fruit and youthful energy. The expansive arc of acidity acts like a corset, holding the opulence of the vintage in check. The bitter phenolics integrate congenially and lend the wine grip and structure. Powerful, yet never clumsy – the extract, the texture and the proportions are perfectly balanced.
Finish
Long, flowing and with a minerally cool finish that recalls the chalky soils of Marsannay. A finish that invites you to take the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From two parcels in Marsannay, the northernmost AOC of the Côte de Nuits. The vines are rooted in chalky and clay-rich soils with excellent sun exposure – owned by Domaine Trapet since 1993.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation. The wine is aged partly in stainless steel, partly in used barrels – a clever combination that preserves freshness without sacrificing complexity. Minimal sulphiting at bottling underscores the estate’s natural philosophy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This wine calls for refined cuisine: scallops with celeriac cream, poached turbot, veal sweetbreads in butter sauce or Comté of medium maturity. Also an excellent choice with poultry in cream sauce.
Special Features
A textbook example of how to craft a wine with freshness and tension from the challenging, warm vintage of 2023. Trapet once again proves why the house ranks among Burgundy’s most reliable addresses.
