Wine description for the Sulzfelder Silvaner Alte Reben 2023 from Luckert - Zehnthof

Colour & appearance

Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections, clear and brilliant in the glass. The concentration typical of old vines is already evident in the viscosity.

Nose

A restrained but precise aroma of white pears, freshly cut herbs and wet stone. With air, a fine mineral complexity develops, underpinned by subtle notes of ripe quince and citrus peel. Characterised by terroir and of remarkable clarity.

Palate

The true greatness of this Silvaner is revealed on the palate. Taut and focussed with a razor-sharp acidity structure that gives the wine backbone. The fruit is ripe but never overpowering - white peaches, pear skin and a subtle herbal flavour. The medium body is supported by an impressive salty-mineral texture which carries the wine over its entire length. The finish is precise, long and characterised by a fascinating saltiness.

General information

This Silvaner comes from old vines in Sulzfeld, which give the wine a special depth and complexity. The Luckert brothers, whose VDP winery is located in the historic 16th century Zehnthof, are among the rising stars of the Franconian wine scene. Their wines are characterised by precision and clarity - qualities that are exemplified in this Silvaner.

Food pairing suggestions

The mineral precision and fine acidity structure predestine this wine for dishes with subtle flavours. Excellent with poached river fish, Asparagus with hollandaise sauce or Goat cheese. Also to Seafood with citrus notes is an excellent choice.

Special features

A prime example of modern Franconian Silvaner from old vines. The combination of precise fruit, firm structure and mineral depth shows the extraordinary potential of this underestimated grape variety. The wine benefits from some air contact and will continue to develop over the next 3-5 years. A Authentic terroir expressionwhich bears the special signature of the Luckert brothers and deserves the attention they received from Stuart Pigott in the FAZ.
