Wine Description for Les Bermonts Grand Cru Brut Nature 2018 by Marguet
- Colour & Appearance
- A pale, luminous golden yellow with silvery reflections and an exceptionally fine, almost dance-like perlage.
- Nose
- The bouquet is characterised by a cool, intellectual austerity. It reveals precise aromas of lemon zest, green apple and white spring blossoms. Underpinning this fruit is a deep, smoky minerality and subtle notes of fresh brioche and slivered almonds, testament to the careful oak ageing.
- Palate
- On the palate, Les Bermonts reveals itself as radical and unvarnished. The absence of dosage (Brut Nature) allows the chalky structure of the Grand Cru terroir to shine brilliantly. The texture is creamy and soft thanks to the circulation in the egg-shaped wooden barrels, yet forms a fascinating contrast to the racy acidity and enormous tension. One tastes saline lemon and a vibrant energy.
- Finish
- A long, almost aristocratic finish, carried by saline minerality and remarkable purity. It leaves an impression of freshness and a fine bitterness that makes you eager for the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- Sourced from excellent Chardonnay vineyard sites in the Montagne de Reims. The soils are characterised by deep chalk bedrock, which gives the wine its backbone.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay. Consistently biodynamic viticulture (horse ploughing). Spontaneous fermentation without commercial yeasts in special egg-shaped 40-hectolitre wooden barrels by Taransaud, to preserve the natural dynamism of the must.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A perfect companion to Fine de Claire oysters, roasted turbot or fine Hamachi sashimi.
- Special Features
- With this vintage champagne, Benoît Marguet demonstrates that uncompromising naturalness and the highest elegance are not opposites. A wine that should not merely be drunk, but experienced.
