Wine Description for Le Grand Blanc VdF 2023 by Maison Stephan
- Colour & Appearance
- Transparent, brilliant lemon yellow with vibrant reflections – a wine that promises freshness and clarity from the very first glance.
- Nose
- From the first moment, an intense, intoxicating bouquet unfolds, which the Viognier component does not deny. Elderflower and peonies meet a lavish fruit palette: mandarins with their ethereal zest, juicy peaches, ripe apricots as well as nuances of lemon and orange. An aromatic fireworks display that combines elegance with southern opulence.
- Palate
- Full-bodied and succulent, the wine presents itself on the palate, carried by a present, vibrant acidity structure that harmonises perfectly with the silky texture. The Viognier aromatics dominate here too with their characteristic fruit fullness, but are cleverly counterbalanced by peppery, mineral notes that guarantee depth and drinking flow.
- Finish
- The finish reveals itself as long and persistent with those peppery accents that lend the wine tension and structure – an elegant finale that invites you to take another sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The vines are rooted in three different departments of the northern Rhône – in Ampuis, Condrieu, Roussillon and Vérin. The diversity of soils, from biotite granite to Rhône alluvium, gives this wine its fascinating complexity and mineral depth.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A thoughtfully crafted cuvée of 40% Roussanne, 40% Marsanne and 20% Viognier from organic cultivation. Hand-harvested and vinified with natural winemaking: direct pressing, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, eight months ageing in stainless steel. Bottled unfiltered, unrefined and without added sulphites – an authentic expression of the terroir.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A versatile companion to grilled monkfish, scallops with lemon butter, goat’s cheese tart or Asian dishes with coconut milk. Also an excellent choice with poultry in cream sauce or risotto with porcini mushrooms.
- Special Features
- An authentic natural wine that, with moderate alcohol content (12.5% vol.) and purist vinification, bears the hallmark of an uncompromising winemaker. A wine that combines drinking pleasure with character.
