Wine information
The Les Binardes is a Côte–Rôtie of 90 % Syrah and 10 % Viognier. The vines date from 1986 to 1994 and are located on steep slopes on leucogneiss and quartz soils. The wines are made in the spirit of Jules Chauvet after a cool 24 hour pre-fermentation with a cool carbonic maceration over ten days and aged for twelve months in used barrels. The wine has not been filtered or fined and has minimal sulphur.
Color
dark purple with violet reflections and black core
Nose
The nose of the Les Binardes is characterised by dense ripe fruit and spices. The Côte–Rôtie recalls juicy blackberries and black cherries, plums and sloes, but also blood oranges and bergamot combined with mint, juniper and liquorice, some pepper and bresaola. On top are notes of violets and lilac.
Palate
On the palate, this Syrah is a dense, ripe, juicy and almost creamy wine. It delivers a lot of extract sweetness and a concentrated dark fruit that is infused with a brightness and freshness coming from Viognier, among others. The dark, concentrated fruit combines with a slightly peppery spiciness and is framed by a silky tannin. The wine should definitely be caraffed at the moment.
