Initially, fennel seed, white flowers and mint dominate, accompanied by verbena and a precise citrus fruit of lime, lemon and bergamot. Beneath lies a fascinating mineral layer: wet stone with lichen, subtle smoke notes, almonds and a hint of lanolin. A fragrant interplay of great depth and finesse.

Terroir & Origin

The Idig in Königsbach is a monopoly vineyard site documented since the 14th century, spanning four hectares – the absolute heart of Weingut Christmann. The steep south-southeast-facing slope rests on massive limestone bedrock with terra fusca limestone rubble, interspersed with buntsandstein rubble and basalt. One of the few genuine Grand Cru sites in Germany.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Riesling, which spent a few hours on the skins, underwent spontaneous and warm fermentation and was aged in large wooden casks – classical, respectful winemaking that gives maximum expression to the terroir.

Food Pairing Recommendations

Scallops with fennel foam, turbot with lemon butter, sweetbreads with morels, truffle risotto or mature Comté cheese. A wine for haute cuisine.
