Wine description for Pinot Noir 2023 from Heinrich
Colour & appearance
Brilliant, transparent ruby red with even colour distribution right to the edge of the glass. The youthful clarity reflects the precise signature of the Heinrich winery.
Nose
A fascinating dialogue between reductive coolness and vibrant fruit flavours. The initial closedness quickly gives way to a complex bouquet of redcurrants, crisp raspberries and tart cherries. Floral notes of violets merge with spicy accents of juniper and allspice. On contact with the air, ethereal components of eucalyptus and fresh mint unfold - a typical signature of Burgenland.
Palate
The palate shows the unmistakable Heinrich precision: razor-sharp focus, with a brilliant acid structure that gives the wine backbone without ever appearing aggressive. The tannin structure remains discreetly in the background and allows the multi-layered fruit - from light forest berries to darker cherry notes - to develop freely. The finish is of medium length, characterised by a refreshing herbal note and animating fruit clarity.
General information
This Pinot Noir combines grapes from both sides of Lake Neusiedl: calcareous soils of the Leithagebirge in the west and sandy, loamy gravel soils of the Parndorfer Platte in the east. The early September harvest was followed by a one-week maceration period with spontaneous fermentation and gentle pressing. The seven-month maturation on natural yeast gives the wine its silky texture with a moderate 12% alcohol. With 1g/l residual sugar and precise 5.2g/l acidity, this is a classic representative of the cooler style of Austrian Pinot Noirs.
Food pairing suggestions
The lively acidity structure and moderate tannins make this wine the ideal accompaniment to Roasted poultryin particular Quail or Guinea fowl. Also to Mushroom dishes with Porcini mushrooms or Chanterelles it harmonises excellently. The herbal component complements Dishes with thyme and Rosemary perfect.
Special features
An impressive example of the new generation of Austrian Pinot Noirs: precise, terroir-driven and with a remarkable balance between fruit expression and structural elegance. The 2023 vintage is already accessible in its youth, but will benefit from a further 2-3 years of bottle ageing. A wine that impressively emphasises Austria's emerging importance for high-quality Burgundy.
