Wine Description for Guix Vermell 2017 by Terroir Sense Fronteres

Colour & Appearance
Ruby red with delicate violet reflections.
Nose
The nose reveals radiant red berry fruit: nuances of small wild strawberries, raspberry jelly and ripe cherries combine with a fine mineral resonance. Cool, ethereal yet gentle spice aromas hover in the top notes.
Palate
On the palate, this Garnacha presents itself juicy with a silky structure. The ethereal fruit is caressed by caressing, finely structured tannins and carried by a shimmering minerality that lends the wine a remarkably cool, focused mouthfeel.
Finish
A wonderfully neat, long-lasting finish with a cool core and epic length.
Terroir & Origin
The Grenache vines for this wine grow in the Les Montalts vineyard on a high plateau at 800 metres above sea level – in the immediate vicinity of the renowned Priorat vineyard Les Manyes. The soil consists of characteristic red clay (“Guix Vermell” means “red gypsum”). The Mediterranean climate with cool nights guarantees a long, balanced ripening process.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Crafted from 100% Garnacha from old bush vines. Winemaker Tatjana Peceric relies entirely on manual work: whole bunches with stems are foot-trodden and fermented without the use of oak in terracotta amphorae and concrete tanks. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulphur addition and a moderate 13.0% ABV.
Food Pairings
Pairs brilliantly with fried polenta with rosemary, garlic and elderberries, complements monkfish wrapped in pancetta with blackberries or elegantly accompanies venison medallions with smoked beetroot.
Particularities
An absolute rarity with a total production of just 1,208 bottles. The wine exemplarily showcases the new, Burgundian-elegant style of Montsant – unfiltered, aged in amphorae and defined by an almost meditatively balanced freshness.
