Wine description for the Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Ostrea AOC 2015 from Trapet Père & Fils
The Cuvée Ostrea is a fascinating calling card for Domaine Trapet, which impressively demonstrates why Jean-Louis Trapet is one of the most sought-after winemakers in Burgundy. The 2015 vintage benefits from an exceptional growing season that produced concentrated yet elegant Pinot Noirs.
Colour & appearance
Bright ruby red colour with a cherry-red core, medium intensity. The wine shows the classic translucency of a Burgundian Pinot Noir with youthful brilliance and clear reflections at the edge of the glass.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and precise: ripe cherry and strawberry meet fine undergrowth notes and a hint of violet. The biodynamic cultivation is evident in the remarkable purity of the flavours. Subtle spices of clove and cinnamon, plus earthy hints of forest floor and damp stone - typical of Gevrey-Chambertin. Nuances of black tea and rose petals develop on contact with the air.
Palate
The 2015 is accessible yet structured on the palate. The texture is silky, carried by fine-grained tannins that are perfectly integrated into the fruit. Lively acidity gives the wine freshness and tension. Red berry fruit dominates, accompanied by mineral notes and a hint of graphite. The moderate alcohol content of 12.5% ensures elegance rather than opulence. Medium to long finish with lingering fruit and delicate spice.
General information
Domaine Trapet has been cultivating all twelve hectares biodynamically since the mid-1990s - with Ecocert certification. The Cuvée Ostrea comes from various plots in Gevrey-Chambertin and represents the more accessible style of the estate without losing any of its authenticity. The wine is already ready to enjoy, but has the potential to mature until 2025-2028.
Food pairing suggestions
Ideal for pink roasted entrecôte, coq au vin, Bresse chicken with morels or matured Comté. Also to Wild fowl or Mushroom risotto with truffle an excellent choice.
Special features
Der Name “Ostrea” (lateinisch für Auster) ist eine charmante Anspielung auf die fossilen Austernschalen im burgundischen Kalksteinboden – ein poetischer Verweis auf das einzigartige Terroir dieser legendären Weinregion.
