Wine information

This organically certified red wine is made from the pure Tempranillo grape variety. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 750 metres in the Ribera del Duero wine-growing region and have calcareous soils. The vinification took place only in concrete tanks and without the addition of sulphur.

Color

Purple red with violet edges and with deep colour intensity.

Nose

The bouquet offers dark fruits of blackberry and elderberry and an earthy-mineral touch. The fresh and ripe nose is precise and focused.

Palate

With its dark fruit aromas, powerful body and quite high tannin content that leaves a furry, velvety mouthfeel, this red wine is a typical representative of the Ribera del Duero. At this stage, I think the wine needs either a steak pairing or plenty of air contact to soften the tannin. Nevertheless, the tannin is ripe and not aggressive.

In addition, El Patio de Valdemonjas 2021 has a vibrant acidity and minerality. The wine is taut and tense, cool and wonderfully fresh. The wine is also straightforward and focused on the essentials - rather sparse in a positive sense. In architectural terms, one would say more Bauhaus than Baroque. This in turn distinguishes the wine from the often still lush and over-complex red wines from Ribera del Duero.
