Wine description for Sancerre blanc AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum from Domaine Vacheron

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow, clear and brilliant in the glass – a classic appearance for a Sancerre of this quality.
Nose
Remarkably restrained and elegant for a Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre. Rather than loud pyrazine notes, the 2023 presents itself subtly and finely: ripe citrus aromas, carambola and greengage blend with delicate floral notes. Beneath this lies a mineral stone layer with a hint of flint. The balance between serious minerality and carefree freshness is impressively achieved.
Palate
Juicy, fresh and above all: precise. The acidity is present but ripe and provides noticeable grip on the palate. The fruit moves in the ripe-green to yellow spectrum, but deliberately takes a back seat. Centre stage are texture, mineral energy and a mouth-watering salinity that gives the wine its characteristic tension.
Finish
Long, saline-mineral and with lingering freshness. The acidity carries far without being obtrusive – a finale that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from all three classic terroirs of Sancerre: Silex (flint), Caillottes (limestone) and Terres Blanches (Kimmeridge marl). This combination gives the wine its multi-layered minerality and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sauvignon Blanc, spontaneously fermented and aged in stainless steel. Domaine Vacheron relies on natural yeasts and forgoes oak to preserve the purity and precision of the fruit and terroir. The result is a wine of remarkable clarity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with sushi and sashimi, pasta with pine nuts and fresh goat’s cheese or steamed fennel with goat’s milk yoghurt, apple and mint. Also an excellent choice with oysters, Loire Valley goat’s cheese or grilled sea bass.
Special Features
The magnum bottle (1500ml) is not only visually impressive but also ensures slower, more harmonious ageing of the wine. A stylistically convincing vintage that places elegance above power – very skilfully vinified.
