Nose
The 2009 Contrada from 100% Nero D'Avola has a nose on the verge of compressing into a diamond, so densely do the disparate aromas mingle. Its rich raspberry, blueberry and cranberry fruit mingles with dried fruit, damson, plum jam, fig and candied orange peel. There is also vetiver, black pepper, anise, allspice, tobacco, spearmint and bergamot. An unbelievably complex nose, which develops best if one caraffes at least 2 hours before.
Mouth
The 2009 Contrada from Az. Agr. COS is sensationally fresh on the nose. The complexity of the nose continues directly on the palate, but without the expected opulence. Rather, this wine from over 50-year-old vines shines through its transparency and filigree without sacrificing power or emphasis. The tannins are of the highest elegance and finely woven like silk, the minerality of the wine supports, cools and structures it perfectly. The acidity shines above everything in full regalia and provides for a drinking train par excellence. And the Contrada manages all this without an iota more than 12%. Groundbreaking!
