Wine Description for Chablis Clos Béru Monopole AOC 2020 3000ml Double Magnum from Château de Béru
- Colour & Appearance
- Radiant, intense golden yellow – a Chablis that reveals its concentration and maturity at first glance.
- Nose
- After decanting, an impressive aromatic spectrum unfolds with precise clarity: citrus, candied grapefruit and quince meld with apricot and honeydew melon. Beneath lies the classic Chablis minerality – flint, seaweed, oyster shell – cool and saline. Burgundian notes follow: porcini mushrooms, brioche, dry biscuits and almonds, rounded off by herbal nuances and a hint of light tobacco. A purist masterclass in Chablis.
- Palate
- Taut, chalky and razor-sharp in structure. The saline minerality and vibrantly lively acidity stimulate the palate and demand attention. Yet the wine displays remarkable fullness and power that never feels heavy, remaining instead linear and focused. The fruit from the bouquet returns, carried by an energised tension that makes this Chablis irresistible.
- Finish
- Long, saline-mineral and refreshing. Stone fruit aromas linger, accompanied by fine bitterness and persistent freshness.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Clos de Béru is the monopoly vineyard site of Château de Béru – a historic parcel on pure Kimmeridgian limestone, south-facing and laid out by monks according to terroir boundaries. That this vineyard is not classified as Premier Cru is due to historical circumstances, not quality: the vineyard performs at Premier Cru level.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay, aged in tonneaux in the first year, then matured in tank. This method preserves fruit precision and minerality, whilst barrel ageing imparts complexity and texture.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Porcini mushrooms with sea salt and seaweed crackers, langoustine with lemongrass and almond milk sauce, vol-au-vents with calf’s sweetbreads, oysters and morels, scallops, Poulet de Bresse in cream sauce or mature Comté.
- Special Features
- The double magnum (3 litres) guarantees optimal ageing conditions. Decant by all means and do not serve too cold – this wine rewards patience and continues to develop over days in the opened bottle. A Chablis for the next 10-15 years.
