Wine Description for Athénaïs Bourgogne Chardonnay AOC 2022 from Château de Béru

Colour & Appearance
Delicate golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a Chardonnay that visually anticipates its youth and freshness.
Nose
Pure, electrifying energy in the glass. Crushed limestone and chalk dominate minerally, complemented by limequats, lemon zest and green apple. These are joined by herbs, lichen and subtle notes of peach and pear. A hint of white flowers and fine patisserie notes round off the aromatic profile – a nasal interplay between austerity and elegance.
Palate
What the nose promises, the palate delivers: chalky, cool and powerful, yet never inaccessible. A finely woven, slightly creamy texture lends charm, whilst hazelnut and almond shimmer through subtly. The saline minerality is the backbone of this wine – it provides drinkability and tension. Citrus fruits and cider apples shape the character, which comes across as slightly tart and immensely lively. The acid nerve is precisely drawn without being intrusive.
Finish
Medium length, fresh and with persistent citrus character. The mineral coolness remains present, a saline echo invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from biodynamically farmed parcels of befriended winegrowers in Saint Bris and the Côte Auxerre – appellations not far from Chablis that possess the same Kimmeridgian limestone. The Béru team oversees cultivation and harvest – a guarantee of quality and philosophy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion: oysters, scallops, goat’s cheese, trout au bleu or chicken in lemon sauce. Also a reliable choice with asparagus and artichokes.
Special Features
An uncomplicated yet sophisticated Chardonnay that demonstrates what organic viticulture and limestone-dominated soils can achieve. Energetic, purist and with a sense of balance – a wine that brings pleasure without imposing itself.
