Wine Description for Bric Del Salto Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2024 by Sottimano

Colour & Appearance
Transparent, luminous ruby red with a youthful violet shimmer – a Dolcetto that visually reveals its origins from the cool 2024 vintage.
Nose
Refreshingly different from the often overloaded Dolcetto versions: light red cherry instead of dark berry intensity, accompanied by fully ripe raspberries and a characterful bramble leaf. These are joined by spicy hints of black walnuts and delicate floral notes of mallow and hollyhock – an aromatic complexity that places finesse before power.
Palate
Slender on the attack, with aromatic tannins that define the structure without dominating. Sour cherry leads the aromatic play, supported by that herbal-aromatic bramble leaf that already characterised the nose. The refreshingly vibrant acidity runs through the entire palate, lending this 2024 a transparent, almost weightless elegance. A Dolcetto that prioritises drinkability over concentration.
Finish
Medium length, with persistent freshness and a herbal-aromatic aftertaste that recalls red berries and green tannins.
Terroir & Origin
From three vineyard sites with old vines in Neive: Cottà, Basarin and San Cristoforo. The name honours the original small Dolcetto vineyard that the Sottimano family acquired in the 1970s – a piece of Piedmontese wine history.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Dolcetto, spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts. 20–25 days maceration on the skins, malolactic fermentation and six months ageing in stainless steel on fine lees. Unfined and unfiltered bottling – Andrea Sottimano opts for authenticity over cosmetics.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Served lightly chilled, a versatile food companion: vitello tonnato, antipasti misti, pasta with mushrooms, grilled vegetables or semi-aged cheese. The acidity and herbal-aromatic profile make it an ideal partner for fatty cured meats and salumi.
Special Characteristics
A Dolcetto that deliberately swims against the current: 12.5% alcohol, transparency instead of opulence, drinkability instead of ageing potential. The 2024 vintage demonstrates Sottimano’s instinct for elegance and precision in a year that rewarded finesse.
