Wine information
The Nebbiolo comes from the Basarin vineyard in Neive. Sottimano acquired the three hectares of the vineyard only in 2014. The vines in the plot are around 50 years old. The average yield is 40 hl/ha. The site was converted directly to organic or biodynamic cultivation by Sottimano. The fruit was destemmed and fermented for up to 60 days or left on the skins, with the marc being regularly punched down during fermentation in open stainless steel fermentation racks. Since 2020, the wine has been aged in large, slightly conical vats. The maturation period in the barrel was around 24 months.
Color
quite transparent ruby red
Nose
The 2020 »Basarin« already shows all its sensuality and eroticism in the fragrance. This is a subtle, fine, elegant Barbarescowhich is rounder, fruitier and silkier than the others. Barbarescos of the winery. Sweet cherries and sweet ripe wild strawberries combine with notes of liquorice, oranges and raspberries as well as ethereal notes of mint, some black tea and mocha.
Mouth
On the palate, the wine offers an intoxicating feast of ripe red fruit, silky tannin and sensual acidity. It is perhaps the most graceful of the five Barbarescos and also the one that becomes ripe for drinking the earliest. The dark red cherry and berry fruit beguiles here together with undergrowth and foliage, mint and black tea, mocha and dark chocolate. The wine is impressively transparent and clear with fine acidity. You want to drink it immediately!
