Wine description for Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Rouge Clou 377 AOP 2022 from Boris Champy
Boris Champy, who once managed cult wineries such as Dominus and Clos de Lambrays, made a remarkable bet on the future of Burgundy in 2019: the acquisition of a domaine in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. What was once considered a cooler peripheral location is developing into a promising alternative to the classic Côte d'Or sites thanks to climate change.
Colour & appearance
Dark, transparent ruby red with youthful brilliance - classic Burgundian elegance in the glass.
Nose
The Clou 377 initially surprises with its dark, earthy side: undergrowth, fine tobacco and black cardamom form a spicy foundation. But then the fruit comes forward - with red berry clarity. Sour cherry, redcurrant, a hint of eucalyptus candy. Nothing jammy, but a radiant, almost nervous freshness.
Palate
The wine shows its best side here: crisp, precise, youthfully vital. The acidity leads the way, the red fruit follows in a disciplined manner, the tannins remain tightly polished in the background. Medium-bodied with 12.5% alcohol - this is modern Burgundy without over-extraction. The whole-cluster fermentation (80-100%) adds texture without dominating. A wine that invites you to drink, not to meditate.
General information
Food pairing suggestions
The lively acidity and medium structure make this wine an ideal accompaniment to food: Beetroot gnocchi with gorgonzola and celery, Fried mullet with coffee sauce or Braised leg slice with mushrooms and puree harmonise perfectly. Also to Wild fowl or matured Comté an excellent choice.
Special features
This wine epitomises a new generation of Burgundy: fresh instead of opulent, easy-drinking instead of monumental. Champy's vision of the Hautes-Côtes as a region of the future manifests itself here with impressive clarity. A Pinot Noir that is fun to drink - and at a fair price.
