Wine information

For this wine, Boris Champy used Pinot Noir from two different parcels, namely from En Bignon in Bouze and from Le Clou in Nantoux. The soil of the two plots is characterised by red clay and white clay with a high marl content. The vineyards were partly planted in the 1980s with a vine density of over 10,000, partly in Guyot, partly in Lyra training. This year, Boris Champy used 50 % whole clusters, extracted them gently and aged the wine for twelve months in barrels, with 15 % in new wood.

Nose

Boris Champys Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 2020 is incredibly fresh and fragrant, with notes of sour cherries, cinnamon cherries, raspberries and juicy plums, as well as a little orange zest and vanilla. The wood that Champy uses is of the best quality and used quite discreetly, but with an exclamation mark.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is delicious, lively, clear and fresh from the first moment. It is characterised by red and dark berries, cherries and a fresh, lively blood orange fruit as well as some cranberries. This is combined with the stunningly elegant wood, a hint of rapping, which together with the tannin give firmness. It is an almost electrifyingly lively tonic Pinot Noir with fine salt on the finish, a wonderful acid structure and lots of energy, sophisticated yet uncomplicated, balanced and a Burgundy in the best sense.
