Nose
The 2015 Barbaresco Basarin from Andrea Sottimano is warm and open on the nose. Grown in the Basarin vineyard in Neive on the border to Treiso with a southwestern orientation, it combines fruit, power and filigree. Dark cherries and cranberries lay the fruity foundation, underpinned by mineral notes of graphite. Mild spices like black cardamom and liquorice are surrounded by ethereal notes of sandalwood.
Mouth
On the palate, Sottimano's art of not only working out the location perfectly, but also creating an equilibrium and combining fruit, concentration and wood with the greatest possible finesse to form an ensemble. Nothing is out of place here, everything has its function and meshes like clockwork. The stage directions are precise, the actors of the highest accuracy. The fleshy fruit is coated with silky tannin, which lets it appear in the right light, the stage is perfectly illuminated. The aromas of the nose are mirrored on the palate and the ripe yet agile acidic nerve gives it racy drinkability. With subtle spice and vibrant fruit, it flows into the long, ethereally cool finish. Curtain. Let's hear it.
