Juicy and focused on the palate with present, elegant acidity, firm, noticeably grainy tannins and notes of red berries, cherries, blood orange peel as well as nuances of liquorice.

  4. Character

Rich in finesse, structured and balanced – a sophisticated, cool red wine with considerable drive and great ageing potential.

Tasting note

Colour & Appearance
A clear cherry red with medium transparency.
Nose
The nose is remarkably cool and clearly structured. It reveals delicate nuances of sour cherries, cranberries and fresh redcurrants, which combine with notes of nut shells, damp forest floor, undergrowth and dried herbs. Cool spices and a touch of fresh mint round off the complex picture.
Palate
On the palate, this Nebbiolo is juicy, focused and of aristocratic freshness. The vibrant, taut acidity gives the wine an enormous dynamism, while the dense, fine-grained tannin provides a firm foundation. The fruit is reminiscent of ripe cherries and tart blood orange peel, underpinned by nuances of liquorice and mint. An aristocratic, perfectly balanced wine from the excellent 2021 vintage.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes for this wine come from carefully selected vineyard sites in various municipalities of the Barolo area. The vines are between 10 and 45 years old, trained in the Guyot system and grow on soils rich in limestone and clay.
Grape Variety & Vinification
This single-varietal Nebbiolo is based on a separate vinification of all parcels. Following a three- to four-day cold maceration and fermentation in stainless steel (with 20 to 25% whole berries and a submerged cap), malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques. The wine received its final structure through a 30-month ageing period in large oak casks.
Food Pairings
Excellent with classic Piedmontese meat dishes such as braised beef in Barolo sauce (Brasato al Barolo), fine game dishes or handmade tajarin pasta with fresh truffle.
Special Features
This wine, formerly known as Barolo Castiglione, is considered the ultimate calling card of the Vietti estate. It unites the different facets of the entire Barolo region in a single bottle and showcases the masterly art of assemblage, which the historic winery from Castiglione Falletto has perfected for generations.
