Wine description for Barbera d’Alba Trevìe DOC 2023 by Vietti

Character
Barbera at its finest: juicy, vibrant, direct. Dark cherry, plum and a hint of violet take centre stage, lifted by the variety’s characteristic, tingling acidity. At 14.5% abv, the Trevìe feels dense and supple without ever becoming heavy – a wine that marries the power of Piedmont with effortless drinkability.
Terroir & Origin
Vietti has been based in Castiglione Falletto since 1873, a medieval hilltop village perched at around 350 metres in the heart of the Langhe. Today, the estate cultivates 75 hectares across some of the region’s most prestigious vineyard sites. The Langhe vineyards, shaped by calcareous soils and marked diurnal temperature shifts, lend this Barbera its compelling tension between depth and freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Barbera is regarded as the everyday wine of the Piedmontese – yet at Vietti it is vinified with the same rigour as the great crus. The house, which in 1961 became one of the first producers to vinify single vineyards separately and in 1967 rescued Arneis from near extinction, stands for respectful craftsmanship coupled with a spirit of experimentation. In the Trevìe, the fruit remains the focal point: clear, precise, dry.
Food Pairings
The lively acidity and soft tannic structure make this wine a remarkably versatile everyday wine: perfect with Tajarin and meat sugo, grilled lamb, Brasato, or a mature Toma cheese from the Alpine valleys of Piedmont. Equally at home alongside salami pizza or mushroom risotto, it demonstrates why Barbera has graced every Piedmontese table for generations.

A Barbera that expresses its origins without pretence – impeccably crafted, unassuming in the glass, and steeped in history within the bottle. As is customary at Vietti, the bottle also bears art: since 1974, labels have featured works by artists such as Pasolini.
