Nose

Rolle, also called Vermentino, is one of the most important white vines of the Mediterranean. From Tuscany to the Mediterranean islands to Provence, Roussillon and also to the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, this grape variety has expanded. In the Domaine Vico, there is with the single vineyard wine A Mina a very special interpretation. The Vermentino must have been harvested very late and smells expansively of ripe stone fruit and oranges, dates, saffron, liquorice, full white flowers and some nutmeg. In the background, a little botrytis resonates.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is even more lush than the nose suggests. A ripe yellow fruit along with some quince, citrus and pineapple notes meets many spices like ginger and fennel , but also licorice . One feels reminded of a Vendange tardive from Alsace or a late harvested Wachau Veltliner, so powerful and almost oily does the wine present itself. A MinaThis is a wine that has been aged in the domaine in a proportion of new wood. This dense and complex wine demands to be countered with the appropriate food.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt:

  • Game terrine with orange-ginger chutney
    (Wildfowl, tropical fruits)
  • Terrine with potatoes, pears and Roquefort (vegetarian)
(Cheese, blue mould, Vegetables & Vegetarian, potatopome, Vegetarian dishes)
  • Guinea fowl with saffron-ginger cream
    (Wildfowlguinea fowl)
