Wine Description for 12 Filari DOC Monreale Bianco 2024 by Case Alte

Colour & Appearance
Pale yellow with vibrant green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and vitality.
Nose
This Catarratto is pure Sicilian summer joy in a glass. An exuberant bouquet of orange, grapefruit and lemon is accompanied by fragrant citrus blossom and fresh mint. Maritime notes join in – seashells, a delicate sea breeze – along with a hint of anise and the seductive suggestion of freshly toasted ciabatta with salted butter. A nose that instantly evokes holiday mood.
Palate
On the palate, the 12 Filari reveals its characterful side: a fine bitterness meets saline minerality and a delicate, almost phenolic tannin that gives the wine structure. Sage and rosemary dominate the herbal aromatics, whilst citric freshness provides tension and drinkability. Spicy, lively, authentically Mediterranean.
Finish
Persistently fresh with saline minerality and a spicy-herbal persistence that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Catarratto vines for this DOC Monreale Bianco grow at 500 metres altitude on loamy-sandy soils. The cool highland climate preserves the aromatic freshness and natural acidity of this autochthonous Sicilian variety.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested Catarratto grapes are gently crushed, pressed after 24 hours of skin contact and spontaneously fermented. The wine matures for six months in stainless steel at 10°C with weekly bâtonnage, which gives it texture and complexity, before resting for two months in bottle.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The perfect companion to Sicilian sun-kissed cuisine: spaghetti alle vongole, grilled swordfish, fried squid, pasta con le sarde, caprese or pan-fried artichokes. Also excellent with goat’s cheese or simply as an aperitif.
Special Characteristics
With a moderate 12.5% alcohol content, an elegant, easy-drinking summer wine that combines Sicilian tradition with modern, purist winemaking. The spontaneous fermentation and extended yeast ageing give it depth beyond simple fruitiness.
