Wine Description for Zweigelt Selektion 2017 by Tement

Colour & Appearance
Deep dark garnet red with luminous violet reflections – a visual promise of concentration and maturity.
Nose
An impressively multi-layered aromatic profile: dark blackberries, elderberries and blueberries meld with ripe cherries and plums. The floral component is remarkable – elderflower, boxwood, blackcurrant leaf and a delicate ivy note lend the wine an almost Burgundian elegance. Beneath lie earthy tones of forest floor, wood smoke, cocoa and fine leather – testament to six years of barrel maturation.
Palate
Here the true class of this Zweigelt reveals itself: juicy, vibrant, with a natural fruit sweetness that harmonises perfectly with refreshing acidity. The fine-grained tannins are refined and elegant, with subtle mineral notes that speak of the calcareous marl terroir. With just 12.5% alcohol, the wine possesses a rare drinking pleasure – invigorating rather than overwhelming, precise rather than opulent.
Finish
Medium to long, with lingering dark fruit aromas and fine spice. The minerality carries through to the end.
Terroir & Origin
The clayey calcareous marl soils of South Styria lend this Zweigelt an unusual structure and minerality. Tement proves that this region is not limited to white wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation and six years of barrel maturation – a bold decision that has paid off. Unfiltered bottling reveals authentic texture and depth. The extended maturation has refined Zweigelt typicity without masking it.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Roasted poularde with glazed carrots and star anise, boiled beef with sea salt and red chard, or vegetarian with radishes on pumpernickel soil with goat’s cheese and blackcurrant jelly. The wine pairs equally well with aromatic, earthy cuisine and delicate poultry.
Special Features
A Zweigelt in perfect drinking maturity that demonstrates what this often underestimated grape variety can achieve when treated with patience and skill. The combination of low alcohol content and extended maturation is rare – and convincing.
