Meinklang is a family-run Demeter farm in Pamhagen in the Seewinkel region on eastern Lake Neusiedl. The circular farming system includes cattle farming for their own manure as well as fruit and wine growing.
The vines for the Graupert are not pruned back and thus regulate their yield themselves. The result is many small-berried grapes that bring less must but more aroma, extract and complexity. Thanks to the wild growth, the vineyard looks somewhat dishevelled, which means "Graupert" in the regiolect.
Color
Dark purple with violet rim and dark core.
Nose
With bold fruit and wild spice, the 2019 Graupert from Meinklang is also wild and bristly on the nose in the best sense. The wild, dark cherry and plum fruit shows itself somewhat unkempt, along with a wild mix of mild spices such as black pepper, clove and allspice. The Graupert promises juvenile impetuous wine enjoyment.
Mouth
The Graupert is a joyful confirmation that red wine can also be drunk at parties in high volume, far from the contemplative mode. The radiant red fruit is fuelled by fresh acidity, a little volatile provides the beloved funkyness. Added to this are youthfully unkempt tannins that contour it tartly. The super juicy drink with tart notes of elderberry or redcurrant leaf makes the cup empty in no time.
