Wine Description for Vosne Romanée 1er Cru “Les Beaux Monts” Vieilles Vignes AOC 2017 by Bruno Clavelier

Character
Bruno Clavelier belongs to that generation of Burgundy winemakers who place precision and finesse above opulence. His Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru from the old vines of the Les Beaux Monts vineyard site embodies this philosophy precisely: a wine of subtle power that puts Burgundian elegance front and centre. The 2017 vintage is considered classic and well-balanced, with good structure and moderate alcohol content – ideal conditions for a wine that combines depth and drinking pleasure.
Terroir & Origin
Les Beaux Monts lies on the slope above Vosne-Romanée, on the border with Flagey-Échezeaux. The vineyard site benefits from calcareous clay soils with excellent drainage and ideal south-easterly exposure. Old vines – often 40 years and older – produce grapes of natural concentration and aromatic complexity. The terroir imparts that characteristic blend of floral elegance and earthy depth that makes Vosne-Romanée one of Burgundy’s most celebrated villages.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir reveals itself here in its pure Burgundian form: transparent, expressive, uncompromising. Bruno Clavelier works according to traditional methods with extended maceration and ageing in French oak barrels, deliberately keeping the proportion of new wood restrained. The result is wines that allow the terroir to speak for itself, without being obscured by overly ambitious cellar techniques. The vieilles vignes bring a natural structure and longevity that give this Premier Cru considerable ageing potential.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this calibre demands equally fine cuisine: Duck à l’orange, Sweetbreads or rare roasted venison with root vegetables pair beautifully. Aged Comté or Époisses are also classic Burgundian companions. The wine’s elegance makes it versatile – equally an excellent choice with mushroom dishes or truffle risotto.
