The Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria, with a history dating back to 63 A.D. After secularisation at the end of the 19th century, the farm passed into the ownership of the Saahs family, and in 2005 Nikolaus Saahs took over the management. Since 1971, the Nikolaihof has been working according to biodynamic principles, which resulted in Demeter certification. Since then they have been using nettle manure, valerian drops, horsetail tea and specially prepared preparations instead of herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. Grown on loess-loamy Danube gravel, the 2016 Vom Stein Federspiel Late Release matured for six years in large, old wooden barrels before it was bottled in June 2022.
Color
Rich golden yellow, bright and clear.
Nose
The 2016 Vom Stein Riesling Federspiel Late Release has distinctive spicy notes of maturity without any ageing tones. Linseed oil, nutshells, acacia blossom and mace outline its heart, with notes of dried fruit, orange blossom and basmati hovering above. Multi-layered and complex, the nose is in constant flux, which makes reaching for the decanter indispensable.
Mouth
Super juicy on the nose, it immediately makes you salivate. Polished and straightforward with a foil of acidity, it is driving on the palate with electric intensity and pulsating bass. With youthful verve and rapid drinking flow, it is accessible with low-threshold sipping resistance and a spicy, long-lasting finish.
