Wine Description for Il Randagio IGT 2022 by Tenuta di Carleone

Colour & Appearance
Luminous garnet red in the glass – youthful, clear and inviting.
Nose
Surprisingly unconventional for a Tuscan Merlot-Cabernet Franc blend: rather than Bordeaux influences, this wine displays Loire character with a delicate violet note, typical of Radda. Added to this are violets, black cherry with subtle sweetness, red and dark berries as well as hints of plums. Herbal notes, a touch of leather and tobacco round out the juicy, fresh and simultaneously ambitious bouquet.
Palate
On the palate, pure drinking pleasure unfolds. A delightfully youthful, fruit-driven wine with a hint of carbonic maceration, which combines floral notes with red and black currants as well as sour cherries. The texture is herbal, juicy and fresh with slightly gripping tannins and that typically vibrant galestro acidity that makes Tuscan wines so lively. The finish presents itself firm, meaty and fresh – the pure fruit dances elegantly with the acidity, whilst the wine displays a pleasantly robust yet equally delicate component.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sean O’Callaghan’s „stray dog“ (with an eye patch!) is the little brother of Il Guercio. The blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is made in a radically natural style: spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks with four months of maceration, of which 40-50% whole bunches. This is followed by 12 months of ageing in cement. The earlier harvest compared to Il Guercio ensures the particular freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with grilled vegetables, pasta with mushroom ragù, tuna steak, duck breast or herb-crusted lamb chops. Also a delight with semi-mature cheese.
Special Features
An unconventional Tuscan that combines international grape varieties with Tuscan terroir and natural winemaking into a distinctive, characterful wine – more Loire than Bordeaux, but unmistakably from Chianti.
