The Bret brothers acquired this beautiful property of about 1.5 hectares in 2016. It is located on the slopes of a valley, below the Roche de Vergisson, facing north. Its soils of calcareous marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. Despite this cooler terroir, the grapes achieve beautiful ripeness. The Chardonnay is whole cluster pressed and spontaneously fermented. It then matures for just under a year in used 500-liter barrels.
Medium straw yellow
The 2017 La Combe DesRoches combines northern and southern Burgundy. Despite all clarity and precision as well as some cool, green notes of green pome fruit and verbena, one finds a warm Chardonnay fruit with aromas of yellow pears, Galia melons and peaches at the same time. This is already beautiful in the aroma, because the wine builds up tension and also a little stone, dry herb and tobacco can be found underground.
On the palate, the Chardonnay is defined more northern than southern. The wine is very clear and precise with decent pressure, a very light tannin and equally delicate creaminess. It is juicy and fully lines the mouth, always remaining bright and citrusy, reminiscent of Meyer lemons. This Saint-Véran is great fun from the first to the last moment.
